Assessment

Screeners
Otis–Lennon School Ability Test (OLSAT)-  published by Pearson Education, Inc.— is a test of abstract thinking and reasoning ability of children pre-K to 18. The Otis-Lennon is a group-administered (except preschool), multiple choice measures verbal, quantitative, and spatial reasoning ability. The test yields verbal and nonverbal scores, from which a total score is derived, called a School Ability Index (SAI). The SAI is anormalized standard score with a mean of 100 and a standard deviation of 16. With the exception of pre-K, the test is administered in groups.

Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT, CAT) -- is a K–12 assessment designed to measure students’ learned reasoning abilities in the three areas most linked to academic success in school: Verbal, Quantitative and Nonverbal. Although its primary goal is to assess students’ acquired reasoning abilities, CogAT can also provide predicted achievement scores.

Naglieri Nonverbal Ability Test (NNAT) --is a nonverbal measure of general ability. There are three versions of this test, designed by Jack A. Naglieri and published by Pearson Education.First is the Naglieri Nonverbal Ability Test - Individual Form.- Online version. The most current version is NNAT2. Like all nonverbal ability tests, the NNAT is intended to assess cognitive ability independently of linguistic and cultural background.

Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children (WISC), developed by David Wechsler, is an individually administered intelligence testfor children between the ages of 6 and 16 inclusive that can be completed without reading or writing. The WISC takes 65–80 minutes to administer and generates an IQ score which represents a child’s general cognitive ability.

Universal Nonverbal Intelligence Test (UNIT) -

Definitions

What is creativity?
"Creativity is allowing yourself to make mistakes. Art is knowing which ones to keep." Scott Adams

What is differentiation?
Fair is not everyone getting the same thing. Fair is everyone getting what they need. -Anonymous.

Most teachers waste their time by asking questions which are intended to discover what a pupil does not know whereas the true art of questioning has for its purpose to discover what the pupil knows or is capable of knowing. - Albert Einstein

The road to success is always under construction. - Arnold Palmer

It is a curiosity of teaching that no two days are alike, but, if we are not careful, all the days can take on a deadening sameness.  We must remember that we have every opportunity to transform ourselves and our practice, just as we have every opportunity to stagnate, remaining much the same teachers we were when we began.  -  Carol Ann Tomlinson
